Um, yes and no. I've "met" several baseball players when asking for autographs (this was about 14 years ago). Randy Myers was pretty cool. He was warming up in the bullpen at Wrigley before a game, and I managed to be one of two of three people that were there when he finished throwing. When he signed the baseball card I gave him, I said "Thanks Mr. Myers" (I was very polite) to which he replied "Mr. Myers is my dad. I'm Randy."
And yes, that looks worse in print than it sounded in person.
Another guy that was pretty cool was Todd Jones. He was a rookie for the Astros, and was hanging out by the visitor's bullpen, talking to one of the ushers. I walked over and asked if he'd mind signing a baseball card. As I recall, this was between innings, though it might have been before the game. At any rate, he initially refused, but when I got a couple steps away he said he was just joking and signed the card. I said something like "it's a pretty good picture of you," to which he replied "you're right--I don't look as fat there."
I didn't have the heart to tell him he was wrong.
